CHARLOTTE - Two of the largest financial institutions are opening help centers in Charlotte to offset the foreclosure crisis.

Bank of American plans to open a help center in October. The location hasn't been announced.

Chase Home Loan opened its Homeownership Center this week to help families struggling to make their mortgage payments. Loan counselors will help borrowers who have a home loan serviced by Chase or EMC.

Bissell to break ground in Ballantyne

BALLANTYNE - The Bissell Development will break ground on two 10-story Class “A” office buildings totaling 550,000 square feet in Ballantyne Corporate Park on Thursday at 1 p.m.

According to CoStar Group, this speculative office project is the largest in the nation, and one of only six speculative office projects delivering in the entire southeast in 2012.

The buildings are set for completion by end of 2012.

Red F owners transforming building in downtown Charlotte into 'hub of entrepreneurship'

CHARLOTTE - Charlotte entrepreneurs Dan Roselli and Sara Garces have purchased a five-story building at 222 South Church Street that they are converting into a hub for entrepreneurism in Charlotte. The building was originally built in 1928 as the showroom and parking garage for the Packard luxury car dealership. Launching March 28th, Packard Place will be open for business during renovations. $3.8 million worth of LEED renovations are being done to the 90,000 square foot building christened as Packard Place and will become a “community center” for entrepreneurs.

More property revaluation meetings set; snow date rescheduled

MECKLENBURG COUNTY - More public meetings concerning Mecklenburg County property revaluation have been announced, and a meeting postponed by icy weather has been rescheduled.

Revaluation is the process of reappraisal of all properties within the County for tax assessment purposes, and is required once at least every eight years by North Carolina law. The last reappraisal in Mecklenburg County was in 2003.

Over time, the real estate market changes, and market prices deviate from the assessed values estimated during the previous reappraisal. A revaluation does two important things:

Foreclosure auction means major deals

CONVENTION CENTER - Over ninety foreclosed homes will hit the auction block Saturday at 9:30am at the Charlotte Convention Center, and the company running the event promises deals so steep, they're practically steals.

Properties valued at $2 million are up for grabs, along with several half-million dollar homes, and they're expected to sell for a fraction of their worth.

Real Estate Disposition LLC peddles foreclosures all across the country. Rick Weinberg, the company's vice president of public relations, says its last auction in Florida sold a whopping 400 homes for a combined price of $23.2 million.
