Elementary school names CMPD's newest K-9

UNIVERSITY - Around 250 third and graders at Stony Creek Elementary School in north Charlotte helped the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department induct their newest member of the K-9 unit by choosing the bloodhound’s new name.

“Smokey” was the name chosen for the recruit through a naming contest CMPD and Do The Right Thing offered to three area schools who had DTRT contest winners.

Do the Right Thing recognizes Charlotte Mecklenburg School students each quarter for actions that demonstrate good character and sound moral and ethical behavior.  DTRT brings CMPD, CFD and CMS together to honor those winning students.
