CMPD to parents: Keep your kids out trouble this summer

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - School is almost out and teenagers can't wait to start their summer vacation. But before parents decide to let their teens run the street this summer, Charlotte Mecklenburg Police have an important message.

"It's your duty, it's your obligation that your kids are being taken care of and they're not out there breaking the law," said CMPD Officer Bob Fey.

The melee in Uptown Charlotte over the weekend brings their concern sharply into focus. Out of the 70 people arrested, at least 15 were juveniles.

CMPD historically sees a spike in petty crimes during the summer months.

"You'll have kids getting into arguments, fights," said Officer Fey.

That's why Steve Norwood keeps a close eye on his grandkids. He'll have his hands full watching them this summer.
