Grab a partner for a better workout, experts say

Grab a partner for a better workout, experts say

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV)- When the alarm goes off at 6 a.m., getting out of bed and heading to the gym may seem like an impossible task.

Good news!

Recent studies have found that exercising with a small group boosts motivation and it's more fun than doing it alone.

"The whole accountability piece of the pie really helps," says Barb Christie.

We all know the benefits of exercise both body and mind.

Everydayhealth.com says group exercise often leads to better results, especially if you are trying to accomplish a goal.

"The biggest benefit to group training is the comradery and how people can push to achieve more," says Rick Anderson the owner of www.fitnesstogethercharlotte.com

Your buddies or trainer also can help motivate you on those days when you really don't feel like exercising.

Ashley Batey Explains: What gives with the crummy weather lately?

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV)- For days now we've been seeing cloudy, gray skies; damp and drizzly weather and temperatures well below what we would have hoped for the start of May.

So, what gives?

Blame the icky weather on the upper levels of the atmosphere, where an upper level low has been in no rush to move out of the Midwest.

It's a pattern known as a "blocking" pattern, where high pressure in the upper atmosphere prevents an upper level low from moving on.

In this case, the Midwest low has become a "cut-off low" where it continues to spin over the same area, bringing rain and clouds, but does not progress further East.  Still, it's expansive enough to send plenty of moisture in our direction, and is responsible for the lousy weather pattern we've been in.

A warning for all pet owners

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV)- It's one of those things that just slips your mind. You think to yourself that you'll get to it eventually.

Now, a warning from doctors, and pet owners, about letting your pet's rabies vaccine expire. It is a nightmare two local families never expected to be dealing with. It has taken an unbelievable financial toll.

Every time Penny Phifer visits here dogs, Moto and Skippy, at Matthews Animal Clinic, she cries. She can't touch them, and can't play with them, after a bat recently flew through her house.

"We called Animal Control thinking it was the right thing to do to report a bat in the house and when the officer came he asked if I had dogs," Phifer said.

When she said her dogs had been in the house when the bat flew through but that she was fairly certain there was no contact at all, the animal control officer asked to see proof their rabies vaccines were up to date.

On the coal plants, he said "our notion is we shut these plants down. We'll look at each plant, make a decision as to what needs to be done beyond the shutdown of the plant, and what the timing is."
