Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools sending out pink slips to hundreds of employees

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Notification letters will be mailed this week to more than 1,000 Charlotte Mecklenburg School teachers and support personnel as part of a district-wide reduction in force.

CMS issued a statement Wednesday evening saying the letters would be sent to 1,077 employees.

Of that number, 338 employees will receive new assignments. For now, about 739 employees will be losing their job.

The reason why these employees' contracts will not be renewed is due to performance, licensure issues, or lack of positions.

Of the 1,077 employees receiving notifications, 285 include teachers CMS says were hired on an end-of-year contract or other interim basis.

CMS must notify the employees on the teacher pay scale by May 15, and they will be allowed to continue working until June 14. These positions include facilitators, media specialists, and counselors.
