School police go door-to-door warning parents of DNC changes | News

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Charlotte - Mecklenburg school (CMS) district police department is going door to door telling nearly 400 parents about the change that will come during the Democratic National Convention (DNC).

Those parents live in the inner loop near the Time Warner Arena.

"We want to be able to make sure they have all the information they need," CMS Police Officer Chris Hanson said.  "So their children can make it and continue to get the education that we strive to provide."

Parents are being told their children's normal bus stop will be no more during the three days of the DNC.   There will be congestion. Parents will have to pick up and drop off their kids at one of two shuttle stops - Irwin Avenue Elementary or First Ward Elementary.

"The parents are going to be responsible to make those arrangements." Hanson said.

CMS parent and college student Damatria Morris says she is not looking forward to the inconvenience.  She has two kids in CMS and will have to make arrangements to pick them up at the shuttle stop.  

"I have to get out of school early," Morris said.  "And then getting to work, getting them to after school care."

Other parents are shocked CMS is being proactive and informing parents early about the adjustments.
