CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Blue lights, chaos, and suspects trying to get away from the cops turned uptown's Transit Center into a crime scene.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, what ended in Center City started at a Farmhurst Road condo development in South Charlotte, that's where investigators say a woman was carjacked.
Before crashing, the stolen car was spotted by state troopers along North Bound I-77 and the chase would head East on Trade Street.
Naschica Morrison came into contact with the vehicle.
"I saw the car coming head-on turning left and straight on in our lane, "she said. "Luckily they managed to turn the wheel enough or fish tail just to side swipe the car."
It happened when workers at the Transit Center were dealing with a post rush hour crowd, and groups were headed to the circus at nearby Time Warner Cable Arena.
Dory Ricks saw it end as she was headed to the circus, across the street.
"What I'm upset about is, she's not hurt. She's cussing the crowd out, and how close she is to the street and right across the street from the circus. There could have been children on the street. She could have killed somebody," Ricks said.
Two suspects were apprehended at the scene and one managed get away.
State troopers will cite the suspects for traffic violations, and CMPD will handle the criminal investigation.
