Popular uptown food truck stolen

Written by Ian Flanegan – email

CHARLOTTE (WBTV) – If you're planning to have lunch in uptown Monday, your options for fresh, locally-grown fare will be limited.

The folks at Harvest Moon Grille say their food truck was stolen late Friday night – a move that could leave a loyal clientele with grumbling tummies.

Owners noticed their mobile kitchen was missing when they went to the storage facility off Remount Road.  They say they're baffled as to why – and especially how – thieves would make off with the big orange box: it's 10 feet tall and weighs over 3500 lbs.  It was even locked down to the storage facility's loading dock.

That's only part of what worries Manager Roger Raymer, though.  He says the cart affects more than just the bottom line of Harvest Moon Grille.

Woman says teen accused of raping 83-year-old bragged about having sex

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The third full day of testimony in the trial of a teen accused of raping an elderly woman got underway Friday morning, and details revealed so far this week have been extremely difficult for the victim's family to hear.

Robert McFadden, 18, is accused of raping an 83-year-old woman inside a Charlotte retirement community where she lived two years ago.

During testimony Friday morning, a 51-year-old woman told the court McFadden attempted to break into her home the day after the alleged rape. She was doing yard work at the time, and chased McFadden away with a broom.

Around noon, a member of the 83-year-old victim's family was called to testify about when he was informed about the alleged rape.

Bike race honors 2 brain tumor survivors

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The streets of uptown will be taken over by bicycle racers on Saturday night.

The 7th annual Presbyterian Hospital Invitational Criterium will race to raise money for the Brain Tumor Fund for the Carolinas.

The three races – Pro Women Race, "Pro" Kids Race and Pro Mens Race – will start at 6:30 p.m.

This year's race will also honor two brain tumor survivors. WBTV Meteorologist Kelly Franson, who will help kick off the event on Saturday, spent some time with the two honorees.

The first Criterium honoree is Punkin Brookshire.

It's been quite a year for Brookshire. After having a kidney removed due to cancer in May of last year, she was diagnosed with brain cancer just a few months later.

"I'm just happy to be here talking to you, you know....considering," said Punkin.

Punkin told Kelly that seizures and funny smells led to her brain tumor diagnosis.
